Mysterium Duo Biography

Mysterium Duo is a Canadian accordion duo exploring music from the Renaissance and Baroque to film music and tango. Their 2026 album, Harmonic Breath, The Music of Palestrina, features nine Palestrina adaptations for two free-bass accordions and has received international recognition, including reviews in Fanfare and The WholeNote. As Fanfare’s Ken Meltzer writes, the duo performs “with the utmost clarity, a compelling unanimity of approach, and clear devotion to the music.” The duo has toured in Italy, including performing at the Vatican, and continues to develop projects connecting accordion performance with early music. In 2027, they will bring accordionists from around the world together for the inaugural Canadian Accordion Intensive at the University of Calgary.
Sir N. Antonio Peruch is an award-winning international classical accordion artist, concerto soloist, chamber musician, recording artist, lecturer, researcher, composer, and arranger. He has been knighted by the Republic of Italy for his contributions to Italian music and culture. He has performed in Canada, the USA, Italy, Mexico, and Cuba, and currently teaches classical accordion at the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels at the University of Calgary’s School of Creative and Performing Arts.
Penny Sanborn is a performing accordionist and PhD researcher at the University of Calgary. Her doctoral research explores the conditions that enable high-performance creativity in musicians. She holds a Master of Music degree in Performance on accordion and has performed with artists including Luciano Pavarotti, Itzhak Perlman, and Renée Fleming, as well as with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. Her projects have been supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. She has performed in Canada, Dubai, and Italy.

Il Mysterium Duo è un duo canadese di fisarmoniche che spazia dalla musica rinascimentale e barocca alle colonne sonore e al tango. Il loro album del 2026, Harmonic Breath, The Music of Palestrina, comprende nove adattamenti di brani di Palestrina per due fisarmoniche a bassi sciolti e ha ottenuto riconoscimenti internazionali, ricevendo recensioni su riviste quali Fanfare e The WholeNote. Come scrive Ken Meltzer di Fanfare, il duo si esibisce "con estrema chiarezza, una convincente unità d'intenti e una evidente dedizione alla musica".
